Mormon Jargon

Bishop

  1. The leader of a ward, similar to a Catholic Priest.
  2. Used in conjunction with the family name to address the leader of the ward (e.g. Bishop Johnson).

Almost all LDS leadership serves on a volunteer basis, never receiving money or material benefits for the work they perform. Bishops usually serve from five to ten years.
