Priesthood

  1. The authority to use the power of God to serve others.

Male members of the Church are given and authorized to use the priesthood only when they live in accordance with the teachings of the Church. Common uses of the priesthood include leading the Church, administering blessings, and baptizing. Although this list is not exhaustive it covers the basic areas. There are two different priesthoods (Aaronic and Melchizedek) and within both of these there are multiple offices. Aside from whatever calling they have, the duties and abilities of an individual are generally based upon what specific priesthood/office they hold. To be a worthy priesthood holder is one of the most important things any male can be.
