Sister

  1. The title for a female member of the Church, normally used in conjunction with the family name (e.g. Sister Johnson).

This term is primarily used in two different ways and generally only for adults. In conjunction with a family name it serves the same purpose as Mrs., Ms., or Miss would ("Would you help me with this Sister Smith?"). Using it without the family name serves the same purpose as calling someone Ma'am ("Would you help me with this Sister?"). The plural form of this word is Sisters. It is similar to the term Brother, which is used for male members of the Church. The reason for using titles such as these is to illustrate the idea that all people on Earth are literally spiritual sons and daughters of God, and as such are brothers and sisters to each other.
