Brother

  1. The title for a male member of the Church, normally used in conjunction with the family name (e.g. Brother Smith).

This term is primarily used in two different ways and generally only for adults. In conjunction with a family name it serves the same purpose as Mr. would ("Would you help me with this Brother Smith?"). Using it without the family name serves the same purpose as calling someone Sir ("Would you help me with this Brother?"). The plural forms of this word are Brothers and Brethren. It is similar to the term Sister, which is used for female members of the Church. The reason for using titles such as these is to illustrate the idea that all people on Earth are literally spiritual sons and daughters of God, and as such are brothers and sisters to each other.
