Mormon

  1. A label commonly applied to any individual who belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  2. A label often used to reference the Church as a whole.
  3. A Prophet in the Book of Mormon.

The term Mormon was originally used in a derogatory manner towards the LDS people by non-members, taking the name from one of the main sources of doctrine in the LDS Church (the Book of Mormon, alongside the Bible). Over time it became a common nickname.
